Mixed Use Commercial Center, Brooklyn NY
TOTAL GFA: 200,000 SF
Proposed mixed use development on the corner of Metropolitan and Flushing Avenues in Brooklyn is designed by Builtd on 2014. The facility is configured in multiple volumes to separate different functions such as storage, office, parking and retail. Looking at the Metropolitan Avenue a two story retail block is located with a partially landscaped roof and glass facade, welcoming pedestrians into the facility to support public life and walkability in the area. On Flushing Avenue a six story office block is located, as well as the car entrance on the ground floor leading inside the building to the four level parking area. The office volume is black steel in contrast to continuous linear retail block that it is sitting on the lot.
On the East side of Metropolitan Avenue, eight story storage block is located with a full glass facade on the vertical circulation core. Design approach is to serve different functions by understanding the various needs in separate volumes while configuring them together and inhabiting under the same linear retail block on the ground floor using the same visual language. The formal layout aims to optimize pedestrian life by locating retail facilities on the ground floor, using transparent facades with setbacks to balance privacy needs as well as supporting the community.
