Multifamily Enlargement, Brooklyn NY.
TOTAL GFA: 4,102 SF
Renovation of a multifamily residential building located in Brooklyn, designed and completed by Builtd in 2014. In order to use the floor area optimally and gain space, extension through the backyard was proposed still preserving the backyard. Basement unit has direct access to the backyard and gets sunlight through the halls left around the building. Different size panels were used to add rhythm to the facade while keeping the height and facade aligned with the neighbor volumes.
Backyard is designed in two levels to allow sunlight to the basement and create a variety of usage and serve multiple residents. Wooden deck is designed for a seating area and usage of open fireplace. Concrete and wood surfaces continue on the steps through the facade to the backyard and reach the upper level with grass floor.
High end natural marble and wood finishes were used to create warmth and balance with the black and white tile finishes in kitchens and bathrooms. Cove lighting and contemporary sconces picked in compliance with a modern approach in the interiors as well as forming integrity with the exterior.
